We are setting off…
RailCampus OWL
Anyone examining Germany’s carbon footprint cannot ignore the issue of railway transportation: Growth can only be CO2-neutral in the future if significantly more people and goods are transported by rail.
Innovative technologies are needed for rail transport to realise its full potential. This is exactly what the RailCampus OWL is all about. Universities, manufacturers, Deutsche Bahn and local authorities work together to create a unique ecosystem for intelligent and efficient railway technology at our Minden facility.
RailCampus OWL connects leading experts in railway technology from science, industry and public administration, offering to train specialists and management for a new technological era in railway transport with new study programmes.
Project initiators include Universität Bielefeld, die Hochschule Bielefeld, die Universität Paderborn and Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe. On the business side, Deutsche Bahn with DB Systemtechnik and the industrial companies Harting Technologiegruppe und Wago are also on board. The city of Minden Stadt Minden and the district Kreis Minden-Lübbecke are also included as partners, while more network and location partners are being added gradually.
RailCampus OWL allows the pooling of expertise:
- Helping shape the mobility of the future
- Increasing the velocity of innovation in the railway sector
- Establishing a network for research and knowledge transfer
RailCampus OWL provides an important contribution to the development of intelligent railway systems for sustainable and connected mobility of the future, while strengthening the entire sector „railway technology and mobility“ as a future field.
Synergies between universities, commerce and Deutsche Bahn facilitate the implementation of products and ideas for the digitalisation of railway operations. Minden is home to the largest facility of DB Systemtechnik, the leading centre of competence for railway transportation and vehicle technology in Europe.
The sector requires well-trained personnel for this as well as other locations. Our aim is to train engineers at RailCampus OWL while cooperating with the participating universities. At the same time, we offer prospects and opportunities for development and further training to employees working in railway transportation.
DB Systemtechnik provides parts of its facilities and buildings at the Pionierstraße in Minden for RailCampus OWL, and they have also been involved with the development and potential surveying of RailCampus OWL. DB employees provide practical support for our project on site.
The innovation ecosystem
With RailCampus OWL, we implement a new, unique ecosystem of innovation, aimed at future challenges of the railway transportation sector in Minden. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as other partners in science, industry and public administration receive a unique infrastructure and opportunities for cooperation; allowing for the design of innovative projects in research and product development for the entire sector.
We focus on application-orientated topics, testing approaches directly on site and checking for their operational capability.
